Pixellator: Mrs. Pix – En Plein Air

So --- this is not yet the final shot of this series (almost), but it is the pivotal one. In progression from the last shot, which was "portrait" style, I adjusted for a wide view (literally "landscape") to take in the nice rolling green hills as a backdrop.

There are a couple of things to notice: 1) it is a little more evident that the reflector is being used to help brighten her torso and face, which are "warmer" than in the last shot - that's because the prior used the silver side of the reflector and this one used the gold side - we were still in the project bubble experimenting with the reflector, and 2) You'll notice there is a prominent road cut very nearby at left that did not yet appear in any other shots in the series.

Well, it was RIGHT after snapping this pic that a car emerged from from that road cut and we were "busted". We both should have heard or seen the car coming from some distance, but being preoccupied, neither of us did. At this point we were much closer to our surprise visitors than to our car and we had no cover-up for Mrs. Pix, so we had little option but to just smile and wave as they drove by ... very slowly ...

Wonderfully, it didn't seem to bother Mrs. Pix at all ...

Ok, so now things take a bit of a turn, literally. I persuaded here to disconnect from the countryside and pose for me a bit before we took our leave. I particularly wanted to use the nice green hilly backdrop on the leftward part of the overall scene – here with a road cut below her elbow. But there is a tech note here that is very relevant to what happened next. I was shooting her frontally at an angle that mostly shadowed her front side, the sun being mostly over her shoulder. I knew this would mean that her lovely lady shapes and textures would be somewhat dimmed out against the brightness behind her.

I had an “aha” moment – I had a new gadget in the car that I had brought with us to try out on this trip – a collapsible, spring-loaded, pop-out reflector intended for exactly this kind of situation – using the reflector, the natural sunlight can be reflected onto the subject to “fill in” the shadows that would otherwise be darkened or poorly exposed. So, I trotted back to the car to fetch it, leaving her standing there naked, and then on returning popped open the reflector and put it to use for the first time. If you take a moment to notice, you will be able to tell that her body from about her hips upward are showing just a bit brighter than is probably completely natural for this situation – that’s the reflector doing its thing.

So, the mood shifted from just enjoying the natural scene and its sensations to a bit of a “project” mentality, with attention on equipment, camera settings, body positions … still fun for us, but mentally in a bit of a bubble, more focused on tasks than surroundings.

So this slow-rolling tale roles on. Assuming you've seen the "Queen of the World" shots, from that location Mrs. Pix was inclined to continue wandering in a generally leftward direction which was in the direction further away from our car and the gate, retracing the roadway we had followed driving in. There was no real purpose to the wandering - she was just enjoying the scenery and the sensations of sun and warm wind on her skin.

She came to this other point that seemed to suit her and she paused, still just enjoying the scenery and sensations. I liked the spot, so I took up shooting again. It is relevant that the hills to the left in this wide shot include a road cut (under her left elbow) - that locates the path of the incoming road.

--- Here's the wide-format; it doesn't look much different in a small view, but the depth of field really pops on wide screens! Save the hi-res for your screensaver. :-) ---

After a few shots at the heavy gate, Mrs. Pix started wandering off according to her own inclinations. And you can bet that wherever the naked Mrs. Pix wanders, I follow. While she strikes poses for me per request, in this little cluster of shots she was not posing at all – she wandered to a point that was essentially an overlook, where the hillside fell away from the road and the warm wind broke over the edge like invisible waves of heat breaking on the shore. At the road’s edge, that warmth was luxurious on her bare skin and she just basked in the full sun and warm air on her skin and through her hair, looking out over the beautiful countryside. This “queen of the world” moment tells all, really.

I’m posting a few of these with just subtle differences because I like them all – especially the depth of field and the tousling of her hair. There will be one in wide format that is probably my favorite of the cluster.

This series aims to bring what I hope might be a breath of fresh air into quarantine. These come from one of our many road trips, literally from the side of the road. We were trundling down the highway in our customary fashion, with Mrs. Pix nude in the seat beside me. I felt inclined to break the monotony of the highway by turning off at a random point to see what we could see “off road”. We followed a side road to where it became less well maintained and eventually came to a heavy gate obviously intended to bar further progress. Being well off the highway at what appeared to be the end of the line, we felt comfortable getting out to stretch our legs and, yes, snag a few photos.

Mrs. Pix was very comfortable and in her element – the sun was brilliant, the air was warm, and there was a warm breeze breaking over the hills that obviously felt good to her, tousling her hair and making her skin feel … well … alive. We posed quite a few shots, many of them managing to catch the mood of how good she felt basking naked.

Well … we both were a little too comfortable and grew inattentive. At a point when we were rather well away from our car, to our surprise, another car came trundling down the same side road. We were too far away to take cover, so we ended up just standing there meekly as the other car came by. Smiles and waves were exchanged. The other car paused at the gate, the passenger got out and opened the gate, just swinging it aside, and they passed through. More waves, and they were gone. Oops.

Hopefully, these shots may help you feel a little of that freshness; something probably all of us can use these days. There are a number of them, maybe a little repetitive; maybe you can find a favorite.

This comes to you from a trip just a few days old now, when Mrs. Pix and I were out of town, staying in an old, but nice hotel. We planned on using the opportunity to take some fresh pics. These were preliminary shots taken at night under ambient incandescent room light, intended as warm up for the real shoot the next morning using natural daylight through our room's large windows. Well … we got called away unexpectedly the next morning, so these preliminary shots are all we have. For the most part they turned out better than I expected, but the post-processing is a bit challenging considering color distortion and noise issues related to lower quality light.

Though some shots have some aesthetic merit, it turns out that a lot of them are pretty graphic in looking right up the hoo-hah. Some of you will like that, some not … caveat emptor.

Come Fuck Me

My recent posts have been “vintage” photos, taking a stroll down memory lane, many from quite long ago, a number of them being recovered as scans from 35mm prints. Nice memories for me, but maybe less interesting for others. In this post I’m going to rip you back to the present, to a trip just a few days old now, when Mrs. Pix and I were out of town, staying in an old, but nice hotel.

We planned on using the opportunity to take some fresh pics. Lighting was suboptimal, so we decided to do the “real” shooting on a morning when large windows would allow some good natural daylight into the room. The night before we took some preliminary shots under ambient incandescent light, intending to just to “warm up”, then shoot the “real” pics the next morning.

Well … we got called away unexpectedly the next morning, so these preliminary shots are all we have. For the most part they turned out better than I expected, but the post-processing is a bit challenging considering color distortion and noise issues related to lower quality light.

So … this is kind of a preview of coming attractions. These will probably roll out a little slowly as the post-processing takes some significant time, which is always in short supply. Also, though some shots have some aesthetic merit, it turns out that a lot of them are pretty graphic in looking right up the hoo-hah.

This old, grainy photo, taken surreptitiously in the darkness of an urban parking garage with a low-quality camera is a humble little thing that won’t win any awards, though fans of Mrs. Pix may appreciate her flashing most of her ass and a dishing out a fair helping of attitude. But this is really about the dress that you otherwise might not even notice.

The dress was designed specifically for Mrs. Pix, by a “legitimate” designer I happened to discover quite by accident. This person at the time was edging out of the mainstream of retail fashion and into the slower-paced world of servicing private clients – who also happened to be hyper-celebrities. Her hideaway shop was filled with the most amazing fabrics from all over the world – things you would never see even in high-end retail lines. Upon discovering her I would visit her shop now and then for the sheer hedonism of fondling her fabrics.
